A standard for every competitor review

Set the quality bar for competitor research, protect client trust, and decide who holds the workspace before the work starts.

Why reviews fail a second look

A competitor slide is easy to produce and hard to defend. When a client asks where a claim came from, the answer should be a record, not a screenshot someone saved last month. Across a team, the same research can yield very different reviews: one states its scope and gaps, another quietly treats a partial sample as the market.

Quality problems rarely announce themselves. They arrive as confident slides: a trend drawn from a partial sample, a label presented as fact, a competitor’s layout offered as the model to follow.

As owner, you carry that variance. An overstated finding, an unsourced screenshot, or a competitor’s creative treated as a ready-to-use asset is a quality problem and a trust problem at once. Clients judge a review partly by how carefully it is stated.

A shared standard narrows that gap: a short list of questions every review must answer before it leaves the building.

A review standard you can audit

Ask these questions at sign-off. Each maps to something you can check, so the standard does not depend on who wrote the review.

Ad8 supplies the records, timestamps, and coverage notes that make the answers checkable. The sign-off stays with you.

Scope. Does it name the Pages, markets, and observation window, and say where coverage is partial or pending?

Evidence. Is each claim traceable to a record reference? A screenshot without a record does not count.

Layers. Are observations, interpretation, and recommendation kept apart, with AI-assisted labels marked as interpretations?

Limits. Does it stay clear of spend, reach, and results claims, and say what the records cannot show?

Originality. Does the proposed test rest on the client’s own message, proof, and assets rather than another advertiser’s creative?

Rights. Are competitor images and copy treated as references only? Using them in production needs permission from their owner, not just a subscription.

Illustrative scenario: the review before the client call

Imagine a hypothetical agency preparing the competitor section for a refillable-cleaning-products client. The draft says a rival is “investing heavily” in a bundle offer. At sign-off, the reviewer asks for the records. The claim rests on a Page whose history is partial, and “investing heavily” implies spend the records cannot show.

The reviewer rewrites it as an observation, moves the guess about intent into a labeled interpretation, and replaces a suggestion to copy a competitor’s image with a brief built on the client’s own product photography. The strategist who wrote the draft can see exactly what changed and why, which is how a standard becomes a habit.

This is a fictional example, not a customer story or a finding about any real advertiser.

The deliverable is two short documents. A sign-off sheet marks each of the six questions yes, no, or not applicable, with a note, and stays with the review. A sharing note records who holds the workspace login, which findings are written into your own client documents, and which records stay inside the workspace.

Together they let you answer a client’s “how do you know?” with a scope, a source, and a limit.

Plan the seat boundary first

The proposed Core plan is a single-user plan: one user and one workspace. Team seats, client portals, multi-client permission separation, shared credentials, and white labeling are not included. Do not share one login across your team.

Decide who holds the workspace and how that person’s findings reach everyone else, in your own documents. If you need more people, more Pages, or client separation, describe the setup through the contact workflow. It will be scoped separately, and nothing on this page promises it.

What you share with clients should be your own writing about the records, not copies of the records or of a competitor’s creative. Ad8 is not a client-reporting system, and it does not read campaign results.
